Celebration of Steam
Compare 150 years of steam technology from the launch of our sail and steam powered warship, HMS Warrior 1860, to a special appearance of the 2009 land speed record breaking British Steam Car! The wonderful world of steam, both modern and old, will be bought to life with displays of traction engines and road locomotives at work, steam wagons, boats, model railways and a host of Victorian dock characters.
This year we especially welcome the team of the British Steam Car who broke the world land speed record in 2009 and give you the opportunity to sit in the car’s cock pit!
Discover the history of Portsmouth Dockyard as one of the greatest industrial complexes in the world throughout the 18th and 19th centuries with a visit to the Dockyard’s Block Mills*, Dockyard Apprentice exhibition, saw bench and stone crusher displays.
Brass bands, Morris dancers, street entertainment, steam talks, traditional fairground and craft market complete with a bigger and better Real Ale, Sausage and Cider Festival this year, plus entrance to the Historic Dockyard attractions** all make for what promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family!
